Telegram Premium Messages Grow From 4,096 to 32,768 Characters

Telegram now has two message limits. A free account sends 4,096 characters, the same as always. Telegram Premium sends 32,768 through the new Rich Text Editor, announced 14 July 2026. Which one binds you depends on whether you subscribe.

Which Number Applies to You

Nothing was taken away. 4,096 is still correct for free accounts; 32,768 is a second, higher limit that sits above it.

Telegram's announcement covers the message body only. It says nothing about captions or bios, so both keep their existing numbers. Count a draft against either limit in our character counter, which now lists Telegram message and Telegram message (Premium) as separate targets.

What Premium buys

The Rich Text Editor Is Where the 32,768 Lives

Telegram describes the Rich Text Editor as "an advanced text editor with support for headings, tables, lists, quotes and code blocks," and says "the editor lets you send up to 32,768 characters in a single message." The same post adds the qualifier: "The Rich Text Editor is currently available to Telegram Premium users only."

The number is a field cap rather than a marketing figure. 32,768 is 215, sitting exactly three doublings above the 4,096 (212) it replaces for subscribers.

Telegram's wording leaves room for the editor to reach free accounts later. As of September 2, 2026 no date has been announced, and there is nothing here to project one from. If you write long messages on a free account today, split them or check the length before you send.

A long message also has to survive the trip. Third-party Telegram clients and bots were written against the 4,096 limit, and Telegram has not said how they handle a longer one. If the people you are writing to use anything other than Telegram's own apps on Android, iOS or desktop, a message that sends is not automatically a message they can read in full.

Styled text

Your Fancy Fonts Are Unaffected

Telegram's character support did not change. This is a length and formatting update. Styled Unicode letters are ordinary characters, so they still paste into messages, bios and display names exactly as before, and each one still counts against whichever limit applies to you.

Build one in our Telegram font generator. If you want to know which Telegram field keeps a styled name and which strips it, that split is covered in where fancy fonts work: username vs display name.

Character figure, feature list and the Premium restriction per Telegram's own announcement post (14 July 2026), which states both the 32,768-character ceiling and that the Rich Text Editor is currently Premium-only. The 4,096 free-account figure, and the caption and bio numbers, are Telegram's long-standing published limits and are unchanged by this announcement.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on whether you pay. A free Telegram account still sends up to 4,096 characters in one message. With Telegram Premium, the Rich Text Editor raises that to 32,768 characters, eight times as much.
No. 4,096 characters is still the correct number for everyone on a free account. The 32,768 figure is not a replacement for it. It is a second, higher limit that applies only while the Rich Text Editor is available to you.
Telegram describes it as an advanced text editor supporting headings, tables, lists, quotes and code blocks, alongside the much longer message ceiling. It was announced on 14 July 2026 and is currently available to Telegram Premium users only.
Not as far as Telegram has said. The announcement covers the message body only and does not mention photo or video captions, which we still list at 1,024 characters, or the profile bio at 70. We have deliberately left both rows unchanged rather than infer a change from an announcement that does not state one.
Yes. Nothing about Telegram's character support changed. This is a length and formatting update rather than a charset one. Styled Unicode letters are ordinary characters, so they paste into messages, bios and display names exactly as they did before, and each one still counts against whichever limit applies to your account.
